This course is designed for anyone seeking to find companionship online. Everyone has heard about online dating sites, but how do you do it? And, how do you do it safely to avoid the numerous online scams? Just recently, two mature singles in our area were scammed and the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office had to get involved to try and save an older man and woman from losing thousands of dollars. This all day session will consist of a presentation by Waldo County Sheriff Jeff Trafton, about safe online dating and avoiding scams.
During the afternoon session we will be working with computers, either your own laptop, IPad, tablet, or one will be provided. Participants will learn about different sites, creating a safe online presence, handling various situations, and answering questions that arise. Lunch break will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Wendy C. Casten has taught five other classes at Senior College. She is a retired professor of education who, coincidentally, met her husband online after years of playing with online dating sites. Currently she chairs “Aging Well in Waldo County,” an AARP affiliated organization working to make life better for senior citizens in the County. Our guest speaker, Jeff Trafton, is the Waldo County Sheriff with extensive law enforcement experience. Sheriff Trafton is on the Executive Board of both “Aging Well in Waldo County” and “Waldo County Triad.”
