E-News May 2019
Summer classes will be posted in the June E-Newletter.
Senior College members,
It is hard to believe that we have wrapped up another “spring” semester since the trees still lack leaves and spring flowers are only beginning to bloom. But it is Maine after all, and we have found it best to start early since many of our members have travel plans in May and June before the tourist season begins. It has been another successful year with over five-hundred members and session enrollments of 335 (fall), 367 (winterim), and 358 (spring). We are most grateful to the countless people who have contributed – our students, instructors, volunteers, trustees and committees, and the Hutchinson Center staff.
Coming in the summer is our annual Festival of Art and a variety of one-day classes soon to be announced. The Festival of Art has grown to become an exhibition of works of 120 artists from all over Midcoast Maine.
Every time I speak with leaders of other senior colleges in Maine I am reminded how fortunate we are in Belfast to have the Hutchinson Center. We are the only one able to have our classes on the same day in the same facility and therefore enjoy the social interaction that can only come from being together. Our scheduling and logistics are much simpler than those of others and so many of our infrastructure needs, like technology, handicap access, clean restrooms, and maintenance, are all taken care of. The customer-friendly Hutchinson Center staff is also a great blessing. Please thank them if you get a chance. Later this month we will be negotiating a new contract with the Hutchinson Center and expect to be enjoying this fine facility for years to come.
Enjoy your summer,
