Outing to Maine State Museum Wednesday, October 4th, 2017
Special Events Committee has arranged two tours of exhibits at Maine State Museum in Augusta on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, followed by lunch in Hallowell. Additional time will be allowed for self-guided touring of other exhibits, as well.
One exhibit, 12,000 Years in Maine, shows artifacts from archeological digs around the state relating to Native Americans who lived here for millennia before the Europeans arrived in the 1500s.
The second exhibit is about the Revolutionary War ship named Defense that ran aground and was scuttled, burned, and sunk off Stockton Springs in 1779. In 1975 the hull was found to be 40% intact and the site was excavated. Remains left by the 100 men and 16 cannons on board are displayed.
We will carpool from the Hutchinson Center. Please arrive at 8:00 a.m. to check in and get organized. The car pool will leave promptly at 8:15 a.m. Cost is $5 per person.
To register for the trip, contact Martha Laitin, 323-2368 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
