We are going to embark on a course of learning, practicing, sharing, and experiencing the different techniques and habits of safe and enjoyable day hiking.
We will discuss the planning, supplies, and equipment that is typically used for day hikes. We will have hands on practice of first aid, map and compass, and survival, with information about ticks, poison ivy and more. We will even learn some slick knots that might come in handy. We will share our past excursions and experiences so that you can seek out new destinations, avoid some pitfalls, and adopt habits to have safe and fun hikes.
For the final class, students will participate in a hike to a destination decided upon by the class members.
