Community Events

From time to time we offer community events. These gatherings are open to all in the community and are often free of charge.

You needn't be a member of the Senior College though we invite you to become a member to support our efforts.

Join Belfast Senior College in a behind-the-scenes tour of the Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport on Thursday, April 24 at 9:30 AM, when the museum education director will show us inside the buildings that formed the origin of the town of Searsport.

Beginning at a home on Main Street built in 1815 where art and furniture are on display, and ending at the 1865 brick visitor’s center where the new exhibit, “Sardine-land, Exploring Maine’s Sardine Industry” will be in process of assembly for the upcoming season, we will see what others miss.

One highlight will be viewing (in a newly created space at the museum) footage from a vintage film about the workers in a sardine packing plant, including a champion sardine cutter.

Group size is limited to twenty people for this event that is open to the public as well as to Senior College members.

REGISTER NOW! This event will fill quickly. If you decide to get on the wait list once the event is full, please provide your phone number and email address so we can reach you if a spot opens up.

Midcoast Maine Green Burial, a local grassroots organization, formed to create the formation of a green burial cemetery in Knox, Waldo or Lincoln County. They will host a one session illustrated presentation about green burial. They will introduce the topic of green burial and discuss how the practice sequesters carbon and preserves land. A member of the organization will also explore how the process can afford an intimate healing experience for the loved ones of the person who has died.

This special presentation is FREE and OPEN to the public. You do not have to be a member of Senior College. Registration is not required, but is appreciated so we know how many attendees to expect.
