Registration

Registration is closed

This will be an intensive course, with all classes taking place within one week.

Starting September 10, the first two days will be full days. The second two days will be mornings only.

We will be fabricating hand-made journals, from designing and making the covers, to the book block (pages). We will sew our journals with a Coptic Binding. We will share experiences, literature, poems, ideas, and wishes -- all while we are creating our own journals.

A $10 materials fee is *already included* in the class price.

Students should bring a smock for messy painting and, on the first two days, their own lunch.

Instructor: Leslie Miller

Leslie was a sculpture major who graduated as a painter and print maker, never intending to be a teacher. She taught at camp each summer and loved it. In 1964-66 in Iran in the Peace Corps as a teacher, she fell in love with the classroom. An art educator for over 40 years, west of Boston, she left when administrators cared more about test scores than good education. During her tenure, she discovered that non-readers who fabricated journals with her then began reading and writing. In journal making courses for educators, the participants found new ideas. Miracles!
