Poems That Make You Laugh

This class is for anyone who enjoys laughter. Together we'll read funny poems by Lewis Carroll, Ogden Nash, and other poetic comedians. We'll read old favorites, such as "Casey at the Bat" and "The Cremation of Sam McGee." We'll also read lesser known but funny works by Dorothy Parker, John Updike, and Franklin P. Adams.

At a time when the national scene gives us gloom and doom, we need a little comic relief. You don't need to know poetry or care about it to take this class. All you need to know is how to read--and how to laugh!

Instructor: Gerald George

Gerald George is a poet who himself has written comic works. He has published three books of poetry and numerous poems in magazines and anthologies--including funny poems in newspapers and the Saturday Evening Post. He has served on the editorial board of the literary journal Off the Coast, coordinated the Roque Bluffs Poetry Festival, and has had a verse play produced in the 2008 Maine One-Act Play competition.
