Belfast Senior College's Special Events Committee is hosting a tour of the Waldo County Technical Center on Wednesday, December 3, from 12:00 noon to 1:45 PM.
The tour will begin with a delicious lunch prepared by the Culinary Arts students in their newly refurbished cafe, and will proceed to the areas where the 11 technical programs are taught.
The Waldo County regional school draws students from the three county high schools (Belfast, Searsport, and Mt. View) as well as students from the Unity Ecology Learning Center and home-schooled students. Small classes of up to 13 students learn the basics of careers as diverse as Computers, Welding, and Certified Nursing Assistant. WCTC offers the only Auto Collision program that includes Composites, and works closely with businesses such as Front Street Shipyard and Belmont Boat Works. Students gain practical skills, as well.
The technical center students serve the community in various ways. The Graphic Design students create posters, invitations, brochures, and logos for the school and community events. The Small Engine students work on weed whackers, lawn mowers, and chainsaws for local residents at no charge except for parts. The Building Trades built dugout sheds for local town baseball fields.
The tour and lunch fee is $15.
NOTE: Registration is initially only open to our Belfast Senior College members; once members have had the opportunity to sign up, we will open the tour up to non-members.
Members, please sign up by Friday, November 21 to ensure your spot.
Non-members, if you'd like to be on the list for consideration if there is room after the 21st, please get in touch. If you wish to become a member, we welcome you to join anytime!
