Defiance / disobedience / resistance—all the same activity—involves many very different activities from protecting the persecuted to immiserating the fascist abusers.

In this 6 week course, we’ll look at what happened during the Nazi era. Is it predictive of what could happen in the future? How did the various religions rally? What could isolated individuals do? What did preventing infiltration of fascist ideology involve? How was non-fascist culture preserved? What tricks did the Scandinavians have? What heritage did Americans from that era leave us?

Instructor: Sandy Garson
Sandy Garson has been a professional journalist. In 1983, she accidentally uncovered the story of the “Good Germans” and met a dozen of these survivors while doing research for a story. This led to research into further stories of resistance in occupied countries. She has taught classes on resistance to fascism at 8 senior colleges. She has also served as a food writer and taught food-related classes in the Maine Senior College system.
