1914’s World War l: the war, often referred to as “the war to end all wars” - had an estimated 40 million casualties and 15-22 million deaths. How did events - both minor and major - lead to such madness? So many lessons to learn, and so many lessons unlearned.

Let’s look at the world of 1914, with a focus on the family at the center of the carnage: King George of Great Britain, Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany and Czar Nicholas of Russia - all first cousins.

How did the war impact the “common” world, then and now?

Throughout the course we will look for answers through the war’s great poetry, prose and music - for insights that don’t pop out from reading a history book.
