This class is back by popular demand! The course will be an overview of one of the most influential persons of the 20th century. The fall 2026 course (Part 1 of 2) features Winston Churchill's early life (1874-1935) - a little bit Downton Abbey, his military career, election to Parliament, World War I, and the Depression. Holding the British Empire together through those events was his mission. Through the telling of Churchill's life, we will look at the monumental events that cast their shadow now just on Great Britain, but on the world.

Fortunately there is much written about Churchill's life and times, including 56 books that he wrote. Music and poetry will be used to supplement the course. In summary, the course is a study of how decisions, events, and happenings in the early 20th century subsequently impacted and shaped our world today.

It is planned to offer Part 2 (1935-1965) as a Spring 2027 course. You will want to take both courses to get the full impact of Churchill's life.
