Philadelphia-based actor-director-dialect coach, Michael Toner, will present a lecture on Modern Irish Theatre at noon, August 4, as part of the Belfast Senior College Brown Bag Lunch series. As a specialist in the dramatization of Irish literature for forty years, Michael has fascinating insight into the evolution of modern Irish theatre, and he’s a very entertaining storyteller. This free lecture will take place at the Belfast Maskers air-conditioned Basil Burwell Theater, 17 Court Street, which is accessible to all. There is no charge for admission, but advance registration is required. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

MICHAEL P. TONER has acted, directed and served as dialect coach in various NYC and regional theatres, and been a guest artist for the W. B. Yeats Society of New York, the Carnegie-Mellon University Beckett Festival, the International James Joyce Symposium (with Sorcha Cusack), the American Shaw Festival, the Portland, Maine Irish Society, the Keswick Theatre, among many others. At Villanova U. he premiered Patrick Nolan’s one-man play MIDNIGHT RAINBOWS, on the life and art of Eugene O’Neill. His own one-person plays include AN EVENING WITH MISTER DOOLEY (from the writings of Finley Peter Dunne), THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER, NOHOW ON (drawn from Beckett’s later plays and fiction), and EVER YOURS, SCOTT FITZGERALD. Mr. Toner summers in Belfast.

He will present his one-man play, BEGINNING TO END (from writings of Samuel Beckett), on August 21 at 7 p.m. and is directing the Irish comedy, BOOKWORMS by Bernard Farrell, to be seen September 3-13, both at the Belfast Maskers Basil Burwell Theater.
